"Hey folks, remember that the USA government doesn't have the power to withhold treatment and kill you unlike what the UK government has done to Alfie Evans say." Next you'll be telling about the likes of Ian Murdock not being killed by your law enforcement oh wait lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqADtJW_1SU

Depends on what form of tax you're talking about, with our income tax for the basic rate (the lower being nothing if earning up to £11,500 a year) is actually 20% that goes up to £45,000 and thereafter is 40%. VAT being of course 20% for most trade, though say for the utilities like Gas, Electricity (and I think water rates too) is actually capped at 5% (I believe it used to be 8% but don't quote me on that lol.

Could even take that further (with Self Assessment forms) by saying that literally we here are at least quasi socialist by the means of having items you personally buy (even with the likes of work uniforms for washing etc you get a small amount of discount for those even) items for your job/work then you don't have to pay for them, the treasury does (if you apply for them though) though what tends to happen right now is that they won't pay for it all in one go. Like my mother got the taxman to pay for her new computer for her work in research for an educational publication but they paid out for it over a period of time in chunks as such. Even with the likes of say work boots for working in a relatively dangerous or potentially dangerous warehouse, steel toe capped boots then the employer has a legal employment obligation to provide you with them.

Then that's neglecting the likes of Borough Council tax though that's certainly not worked out overall by a percentage, that's dependant upon the Borough Councils themselves and what they feel properpties fall within the certain bands of charges. Those bands being from A (as the one I come under a property value going back to 1991 being no more than £40,000) being the cheapest up to H (as long as the value was at least £320,000). Technically speaking though they're nationally rated as a two person occupancy, but if you declare there's only one occupant then you get a 25% discount and furthermore (I think this also applies to least some of the utility companies as well) when you only pay for 10 months of the year, though the amount you pay increases to pay for those two months when you don't pay anything. With the utility companies they'll (when being billed monthly I know this is categorically the case) with their overall rates will charge more during say the summer for electricity (as you won't need as much for say heating) and will be the case for the gas companies as well, more than what's being used so you don't end up with an increase in bills for the winter so it all levels out. It could be overall true though what you said on average perhaps being more tax but I really wouldn't know to be brutally honest. PS with what I stated above with VAT it's optional for a company to be VAT registered if their turnovers below (I believe it could be still set at) £70,000 a year then they don't have to be, but they'll have to pay then VAT on all their supplies and they can't charge customers/clients for VAT (as that would be a criminal offence of course). But any amount of £70k or higher then a company has to be VAT registered (then it comes with being visited by the taxman every 3 months).
