It's not about endless profit, 80% of landlords are private people who are being forced to raise rents do to ever increasing property taxes. If you want cheaper rent stop voting to raise property taxes for every government pet project.
87
How can you stabilize rent but don't stabilize property taxes, insurance rates, maintenance costs, and all the other expenses? Everyone only looks at one side of the coin.
25
@BleedForTheWorld You don't have a clue! The people are being used as pawns. You can't ask for rent not to be raised but property taxes, maintenance costs, and insurance is constantly increasing. When you run the mom and pop landlords out of the game you're going to really have issues. No one is playing here!
20
@sebastiancontreras1559 You can't expect mom and pop landlords to carry the burden that the government is supposed to carry. We aren't rich or greedy.
15
@skyisreallyhigh3333 You're silly I've been a landlord for 16 years and never colluded with anyone. But there's a way to stop it. Buy a house.
12
@ChetHanks-eh1md You are delusional we don't use algorithms in the mom and pop world of rentals. You are confusing us with the big corporations.
12
@sonic8005 That's true but the crap that's being introduced makes me believe that yall think landlords shouldn't make any money.
8
@Djaj2000 There's more to rent than taxes
8
@k.w.8496 absolutely! Government failed miserably at providing affordable housing. So they tore down 90% of the projects and pushed the burden onto the landlords. This isn't sustainable. Rent control will eventually fail also.
8
@Jaxzyn No landlord is just running around putting people out. If pay your rent and respect the property they want you to stay forever. The problem is people think they can stay and pay whenever they want.
8
@ZentaBon You are completely wrong! No company owes you anything but your paycheck at the end of the week and the benefits they promised.
7
@ZentaBon You got paid for performing a job a fair exchange. When they started the company and risked millions of dollars the people weren't going to chip in and refund their investment if the company failed.
7
Why do you get to tell someone how much money they can have?
7
@steampunkwhale2280 I have a real job two of them. Stop whining and man up! I got hit with no rent from tenants for 32 months.
6
@dirtydirtyshisno7284 Oh just like the projects. I can't wait to see the maintenance on these properties.
6
@yeeksouphand5843 you won't have any rental houses
6
@realdeal139 Most of them will never become homeowners because they're not willing to do what it takes to own a home.
6
@sonic8005 Wrong! That's not the incentive.
5
@sebastiancontreras1559 Believe it I know what it's like out here.
5
@ChetHanks-eh1md No what I'm saying is there are several costs associated with rental housing. Taxes are just one of therm. Don't ask landlords to carry the burden of providing housing on their backs. Eventually there will be no housing to rent if this keeps up. Landlords are dangerously close to the edge. You're thinking about the blackrocks of the world I'm talking about mom and pop landlords. You don't want all rentals controlled by corporations.
5
@chrism8180 Well he should consider himself lucky. But it's his property and he do what he wants with it. It the market bears those rates then he can charge them. I still don't believe them. If properties are that cheap where you live why haven't you bought one? Puts an end to the landlord doesn't it.
5
@chrism8180 My colors never changed. If you are unskilled go get some skills, make more money, stop waiting on someone else to make it happen for you, man up! If your living expenses are too high get a roommate or two. Excuses don't work!
5
@BleedForTheWorld I can't believe how many people are on here crying. Man up and make a change if you're not happy with your housing situation. No one can make you rent a property, if you don't want to. In America this is a capitalist society, companies do what makes sense to them financially. This is why the government shut down most of the projects because they don't make sense financially.
4
@sethseth9059 You don't want that.
4
@BlueRidgeBubble You sound crazy! I'm a licensed realtor/licensed builder/master electrician, real estate is what I do. These corporations are buying less than 7% of available properties. Don't make excuses for not owning a home just figure out what is wrong whether it's credit, income, or whatever. Then make the necessary changes to own your own home. Every tenant in my rentals has been offered the opportunity to buy the property at some point and only 1 has taken me up on the offer. I know what's happening out here. People want to live in a good home for the cheap! Just can't happen anymore. So try that sad story on someone else, I'm the person moving the world of real estate, I'm leading the charge. Nothing has passed me by.
4
@holdenmuganda97 Be for real, I'm a realtor and there are plenty of properties for sale. Rental properties are necessary because everyone is not in a position to own a property. Landlords do not own all of the properties. If you really wanted to buy a property you would have bought one.
4
@alanlu8625 There's no sympathy right now and you have a roof over your head.
4
Who will own the apartment buildings, most people don't have that kind of money?
4
@fremontusc Exactly! These childish approaches to the housing problem will never suffice. We all know the government screws up everything it touches.
4
Then you really won't have enough rentals
4
@BleedForTheWorld If I were profiting so much I wouldn't have two jobs working 7 days a week. You make a lot of assumptions which might hold you back in life. I get out here and work for every penny, no one is giving me anything, not even a break.
4
@WhalesArePeopleToo I know why people don't buy houses. The point I'm trying to make is everyone knows how hard it is to buy a house but they expect landlords to keep the price of their houses low so that you can be comfortable. I've been at this a long time.
4
@WhalesArePeopleToo Wow! You really have no idea what is going on in the housing industry. Landlords can't coerce you into doing anything. Why would a landlord take on the job of being a landlord for no profit just so that you can live a comfortable life. Please grow up!
4
@chrism8180 That number 3000 dollars is extremely low. I don't think you saw the right number. My old home in the hood had higher taxes than that. What city and state are we talking about? I don't know of anyone in a single family home with taxes that low.
4
Buy a house and your problems go away.
3
@matthewweng8483 OK, keep making excuses and waiting on the government, let's see how that turns out for you.
3
@chrism8180 OK have it your way, I hope it works out for you.
3
@BleedForTheWorld I never said I was coming to make the world a better place. LOL! There's nothing cruel about a man trying to earn money. If you don't like the way he's earning it, don't do business with him. Pretty Simple!
3
@rizean2 Yes! Some would have you believe that landlords are out here trying to treat people badly. We love good tenants and do everything in our power to keep them.
3
@holdenmuganda97 The housing supply is increasing rapidly. The lack of supply comes from the government placing so many restrictions on builders that they don't want to build in certain areas. My second and third properties are taxed more heavily that's not a new concept. Yet people still want to say it's the landlord's fault they don't own a home. Well, it isn't, most people don't want to own a home because it is a huge responsibility, lots of money. It's not the landlord's fault.
3
@TheTillmanSneakerReview No CAP here all facts! If most Americans can't afford a home, then you should understand how difficult it is for the mom and pop landlord to provide housing. You want to blame the landlord for raising rents when everywhere we look we are being asked to pay more and more. If you don't like the landlord your only option is to buy your own home.
3
@havenbastion I agree with you. Just can't make someone else give it to you. You have to go and get for yourself. For those folks in society who are mentally and physically damaged we should help them. For those who are able bodied, they gotta get for themselves. Each answer is different for each individual on how they achieve it.
3
@nunyabidness117 So True!
3
@rhumal wrong!
3
@joshuaortiz2031 Well that's not true, I own 2 properties one of which I live in. I too am a veteran and used my VA benefits to buy my primary home. You can't afford anything because you don't make enough money or your credit isn't good enough. The VA loan doesn't even require a down payment or for you to pay PMI so I don't know what your issues are but I can imagine.
3
Did you have a lease? Were you month to month?
3
@Rgrinkleson It's done for whatever reason the landlord says. It's his property he can do what he wants. He may have discovered that he's renting the property out for to low of a price now he wants to raise the rent, he has a right to do that. You have the right to decline his price increase and move. This is America!
2
@lloydmoore982 We had affordable housing before, don't you remember? It was called the PROJECTS! Housing is not a human right, your ability to get a job and buy a house is human right.
2
@The_Savage_Wombat How does that make a difference?
2
@dianabenavides2913 Absolutely! There's no such thing as free money.
