The GX 460's engine, the 1UR-FE, should've gotten D4-S direct and port injection to make it a 1UR-FSE. It would have easily made 400 hp.

Yup. The 5th gen 4Runner will last forever. Just today I looked up the 2023 JD Power Initial Quality Study because I wanted to show a friend how unreliable Mercedes is and when I found it I was SHOCKED. Toyota was WORSE THAN MERCEDES and Lexus was just slightly better. All the new models from Toyota and Lexus have so many issues they dragged the statistics down from the top to the lower third. YIKES.

@chibbyylol WRONG! The 1UR-FE also existed in the Lexus GS 460 and LS 460 in the Middle East from 2007 to 2010 because of high sulfur gasoline. GS 460/LS 460: 322 hp @ 6,9k rpm / 339 lb-ft @ 4.4k rpm GX 460 / Land Cruiser 200: 301 hp @ 5.5k rpm and 329 lb-ft @ 3.5k rpm. Then there's the 1UR-FSE. GS 460: 342 hp @ 6.2k rpm / 339 lb-ft @ 4.9k rpm LS 460: 385 hp @ 6.4k rpm / 369 lb-ft @ 4.1k rpm The 1UR-FSE was FAR less complex than this new V35A-FTS twin-turbo engine. It made 369 lb-ft at 4.1k rpm which is still below the GX 460's redline. The 4.6L V8 was bulletproof. The 3.4L twin-turbo V6 is problematic.

@chibbyylol Toyota can't make efficient engines. BMW X7 M60i with 4.4L 523hp V8 gets 1 MPG better. If that engine was in the GX it would probably get the same as the GX now but with 175 hp and 80 lb-ft more, and that engine isn't even tuned for torque. Lexus is inferior.

Just flash the ECU with a tune for 87 octane and see what extra power you can get.

@2URLex The hybrid specs have been officially revealed. It's the same as the Land Cruiser. 2.4 Turbo hybrid.
