Grace explained everything about why the fans in South Korea are against Nagoya to host the event. Sexual enslavement and forced labor are not plain everyday politics. That's the main problem. The seriousness of these issues and Japan officials' diminishing attitude towards them is what made Korean fans protest. Additionally, if you watched the video you could hear that Nagoya's festival excluded a sculpture that symbolizes part of Korea's painful past under Japanese colonial rule.
Everything that's happening, those trade and diplomatic disputes, which btw were started by Japan's prime minister Shinzo Abe, came merely as a consequence of deep historical background and are just the tip of an iceberg. Abe enjoy big support during his term and that is also why fans, people of Korea, complain, because many in Japan still refuse to accept or even don't know what atrocities Japan did in the past. Koreans don't hate Japanese, but want their representatives to recognize the truth. As you heard here, even the court rulings were disregarded.
I think, since CJ E&M is a South Korean company and awards are mainly for K-pop, it would make more sense to organize the event only is SK capital Seoul, or make some sort of co-host arrangement. I don't know why MAMA was held abroad for so many years.
