  8.  @MikeW165  The succession itself caused the war. They wanted sovereignty but also wanted the protection of our governments military against Mexico. Slavery was on the docket sure.. but slavery abolishment wasn't what started the war.. it was just the outcome of losing. The north had industrialized... that was why they didn't need slavery anymore. It wasn't benevolence.. it was business evolving. Jim Crow to follow.
