cavid ahmedov Russia has far more than oil and gas to sell, but it is biding its time. Russia is very rich in rare earths necessary for cell phones and computers, these minerals are called "rare earths" because they are very rare and the world depends on them. By the time alternative energy has become mainstream, those countries presently having and selling rare earths will have run out of them and the already very high price for them will have risen exponentially.

Good news! Russia obtained exactly what it wanted and was asking for since the beginning. The EU is paying for it, and at the same time the EU is losing billions of dollars because of the sanctions it has imposed on Russia. Sanctions which are in fact benefiting Russia! http://russia-insider.com/en/politics_business/2014/10/31/03-27-48pm/kremlin_economy_boss_please_dont_cancel_sanctions_-_theyre

HenrySims Russia is perfectly able to feed itself without importing food from the EU, and it is importing food from Brazil and other countries now. The EU is the loser: http://www.baltic-course.com/eng/baltic_states/?doc=95414 http://en.ria.ru/analysis/20140814/191997283/EU-Farmers-To-Lose-16-Billion-as-Russians-Support-Food-Embargo.html

HenrySims It is only Lithuania which has built a small and not a huge liquid gas terminal. Latvia's contract with Russia's Gazprom runs until 2030, and if it breaks that contract it will have huge penalties to pay, which it can ill afford.

HenrySims Russia has no intention of cutting the gas because of the sanctions - and it is the sanctions which have broken contracts with Russia, not the other way round. The only reason Russia might cut the gas is when the Ukraine steals the gas meant for the EU, as has happened before.
