  1. I suppose if you have your head stuck up your rear end you might believe things are better since Thatcher. Here's some facts: In 1980 a single unskilled wage could keep a family and buy a house. There was no long term unemployment. There was no mass unemployment. A 'job' meant '40 hours per week for life'. Council houses were easy to get. Council house rent was one day's unskilled wage. Council rent included water/sewage charges and council tax. A basic house cost three times a year's unskilled wage. University education was free and grant assisted. The people owned the trains, coal, water, telecommunications, gas, oil, social housing, post office etc. .... Go figure!
