  1. That is not actually true that syphilis came from the New World. A few years ago archaeologists dug up a Medieval cemetery here in the UK in a costal port called Hull. The cemetery was part of a monastery which I think dated back to the 11th.centery. They found clear evidence of syphilis on one of the monks bodies estimated to have died in the 12th. century so the infection was probably the other way round.
