Nevertheless, the Russians are doubtlesly the agressor under international law if they dare to invade independent sovereign areas that do not (like Donbas/Luhansk) demand more self-determined independence by referendum and at the same time ask Russia for active support. The same devastating judgment applies if Russia actually wants to change the existing state structure in Ukraine by force against the will of the people.
