  1. The banking crisis in the west is because the banks bought 30 year US bonds that were paying 2% apon maturity. When the Fed raised short term interest rates to about 4% big depositors were taking their money out of the banks and buying short term bonds. The long term bonds were traiding about 70% of their face value so they couldn't cover the withdrawls.
