Russia doesn't have any mercenaries... Uless you call Ukrainains mercinaries.
39
They have no heavy arms there. They are also decomitioning the plant. The area has been shelled by US supplied Himars..
26
@user-es8si3cv8b Chechenains are to russia as texans are to american. An alnalogy..
21
The Ukraine millatary should clear the mines they are blockaiding their own ports with. The russian millatary cleared other ports east of there that ukraine mined.
20
Mercinaries are not covered by the Geneva Convention...
16
@allydea Is there any possibillty for DW to end it's hellucinatory machinations? When russia dictates terms in the Ukraine, do you think DW will be able to acknowledge that reality?
12
A war crime.... Prime suspect is brandon who said that Nord Steam Two would never be operational.
12
It takes time to train on these intergrated weapon systems.... Ukraine has some people traing in germany and in polland on a nato standards four month training regimon. It is hard to imagine how they can get those heavy weapons and personel on the battel field in the break away provinces at that time... If I were a betting person I would say that by the time the personel is trained, russia will have liberated the donbass.
10
Siemens, the german company that services the pumps, signed off on the maintence issues that the pumps were expiriencing causing an emergency shutdown of the single pump in operation.... Siemens has been working on a work around from the sanctions but has failed to get the nessessary equipment to service the pumps.
9
The greatest threat to nato is nato.... I've seen the enimy and it is we.
7
@sands7779 It is a ridiculous statement to say that Ukraine has not targeted civilians in its very long war against the Donbass... Early on Ukraine targeted Ukraine civillians in Odesa by throwing them in a building, cealing it up and burning it... There is however an alternate reality that is easily quoteable.
7
@rocky137 I still doubt the effects of chinese impiralisim [or what ever you call it] All the chinese have to do is give people a better deal than the west who has perhaps given them not a very good deal.
7
OK. so lets run brandon.
7
... To get out the invading Ukraine forces who station themselves there... I fixed it for you.
6
There is considerable question about what realestate will be considered 'Ukraine''... There is also considerable question about if/when the EU will recover from the sancions.
6
Who benifits from this? Brandon actually said he would shut it down. Some posit a theory that, in the word of one very good comedian, dark brandon did it.
6
Too funny.
6
It is probably better if russia wins and implements minsk+. Sanctions are not related to the war in that the goal was the sanctions and war was the means to the sanctions.
6
@marshmallowpuff4899 ... All I am saying is if china wants to expand it's industrial base, like they have been doing, china need to keep the cost of living down... They can't do that by giving away natural resources to a tiny few and bailing them out, not if, when they fail... We do that in the west and we know what it is like.... It leads to the tiny few having all the assets, asset price inflation, debt deflation and the cannibalizations of industry [deindustrialization] .. What we are seeing in the west.
6
@rogersmith8480 The producers of war machines and amuntion are mostly US interests who make their equiment in the US where energy is cheep.... Even if it weren't the political pressure of the millatary industrial complex has had the US alocates about a trillion dollars a year from the US treasury alone.... The expansion of Nato is a way of insuring US exports and is one way to keep the dollar stable.
6
@patrickribeiro9167 That tends to be what Ukraine does.... I am not sure that I can counter the assertion that they were using the plant as an amo depot.... That seems very unwise. Why would they have to use it as a depot while the allies have a clear advantage in the LPR, DPR as well as almost all the way to Odessa in the south?
5
@sebastianwrites True... Ukraine didn't instigate the war and they had no choice in the matter... When they had a goverment that wanted to have closer ties with russia they had a CIA led coup in '14. That goverment stepped up shelling in the war in the east that was going on for eight years in febuary. Those were orders from the west.. Now the west is interested in making a stable war in Ukraine but they are running out of Ukraine conscripts to do so.. The main reason for the west's interst is to sanction europe... It may seem like a werd conspiracy theory but most things sound weird to people who don't know anythng.
5
Kiev still has over 90% of it's beutiful buildings and infrastructure. With any luck it will be a thriving metropolis in the future as well.
5
That is not clear yet. If they want to keep their industry they need to intervene on behalf of the people.
5
Who dug in to the russian region for eight years with the support of the US? Who shelled the nucliear power plant?
5
Mercinaries are not covered by the Geneva Convention.
5
Did the US decide to tell the germans which lies to tell about china as well? Are you going to pay us back for the lend-lease equipment we are sending to Ukraine in dollars?
5
@TonyA-ex1sj Russia won in Ukraine and turned around and won in on the economic front... It feels good to laugh anyway.
4
There is a prediction of famine and starvation of millions of people, mostly children, because of sanctions against not only russian grain but more so russian fertilizer. Stories like these break my heart. I hope it can be avoided.
4
@saveriodipoce2201 Sendibg weapons to Ukraine is an end in it's self.... I am a mechanical designer in the US... Please send us money in Dollars so that we can make more.
4
Please refference Earl Grey who claims to have found a rand report on these issues before the start of the russian offensive in ukraine. While you point out that there is great deal of interest in building war machines for profit, that report suggests that is not the only consideration behind the push to create the EU and expand Nato..

@hhKJgf1M8a0rzt8hP How is Ukraine a sovereign contry? They got couped in '14 and Victoria Nuland installed the person she wanted, Russia was winning on the Donbas battelfield in '14 and got a peace agreement that was never followed. Then on April 1'st of 22 they were ready to sign a peice accord that was the original agreement that they came to in '15 when they were instructed by the west to not sign. Ukraine is taking all of it's instructions from the US. Close to a half million Ukrainan young men have died in this conflict.... The weird thing is that the war was about sanctions and the sanctions atually stenghthen the Russian economy... I am looking here to see what the western press is saying... It is amazing how many people have the impression that Ukraine is winning and soverign.
4
@Groggybandito Ukraine has been mining the ports in Ukrane that are not occupied by russia. At one time it left a lot of grain stranded for months....
4
And they need to reimburse the US in dollars for the weapons we sent and buy more weapons from the US... As a mechanical designer this profits me personally...
3
The social media war might turn to how unstable Putin is and what he will do if russia loses.... "We could win but what would that do to the unstable putin?" ... "What would he do if we embarrase him?"
3
Typical for DW to say that russia destroyed the last bridge when it was done by Ukraine.
3
@Surfbird11 Russia explicitly said that there would be a price if ukraine attacked it on the main land.... Ukraine attacked critical infrastructure for crimea, which is in russia and was used both for civilian and military use. The electrical grid in ukraine is also used for civilian an military purposes. Russia had the option of destroying this critical military infrastructure earlier and/or any time they chose to... Evacuating civilians from a war area and declaring martial law in that area prevents ukraine from using civilian clothing or vehicles for cover in attack or supply operations and for using civilians as human shields. Ukraine's innocent military personnel will continue to pay the highest price.
3
Too funny...
3
Not sure.... They will have to clean up after their pipes freeze and so many people die.
3
Tell them to pay us back for the weopons we made here in the US... In US dollars.... Do they think their security is free?
3
They thought Sievierodonetsk would be liberated in a week, then they sudenly planed on three days.. Turns out, the ocupiers left to the other side of the river in three hours. That quick retreat could save much of Sievierodonetsk's infrastructure.
3
@Nine-Signs I like that. You characterize financialized capitalism as prioritizing rich men's dogs over commoner's children.
3
@scottball6431 They pick off Russian POWs and russian civillians and 'colaborators'... I don't think that is good PR...
3
@ricardosoto5512 So the CIA coup in '14 was not a factor in turning Ukraine west facing and the start of the civil war? Who knew? Then have the call for sanctions to isolate europe starting in '21 and the lack of the US being able to save the europeans from those sanctions as well as the loss of the war in the Ukraine on the ground. Does no one in the US run any simulations or have any strategic planning either economically or millatarily?
3
It was how the US won WW1 and 2... They beat the UK and Europe... I am not sure russia wants to do that.... Ukraine is the poorest contry in europe.
3
They think for what the US wants and make promises to them...
3
Russia is not profiting from the war. It is profiting from the sanctions....
2
I forget their asks in febuary.... What were they and have they canged at all?
2
Arguably DW is full of more nonsense than Lavarov or Putin... What has happened is that russia is occupying much of the russian ethnic areas of the Ukraine, will take the rest of the Donbass soon and is in better shape economically than the west... ... The west has lost economically, millarily and continues to blame all of it's calamities on russia. The west's policies lost and indicate that they can't do an analyisis of a ledger in a candy store.
2
@tonyatgoogle6076 Not really, dave said brian dived down the steps on purpose.
