Drach please correct me if I'm wrong, or anyone for that matter, but was the US and Germany the only powers not to lose a capital ship to a sudden case of rapid and spicy disassembly that wasn't in battle. Any particular reason why that could be ?? Also I'm a rather huge fan of the Italian effort to modernize its battleships. The rebuilds produced notable improvements across the board. Not to mention the ships looked really really good as typical with Italy.

I think the Brooklyn class maybe voids that argument a bit. They possess enough barrels and enough of a fire rate that they could drown an opposing cruiser in shells. Obviously they would be wrecked if a heavy cruiser got a bead on them and gave them all 9 barrels. But I highly doubt most heavy cruisers could withstand 15 six inch AP shells every 7 to 8 seconds for any length of time.

@voqiir3802 true....very true, though I think it because of a design flaw within the ship itself vs human error.

@voqiir3802 i completely forgot about the Maine. Mostly because the time period. I also barely classify it as a capital ship, even for the era.

@timothymiller4475 no the Maine exploded because heat from her coal bunker was transmitted through the walls into one of her magazines.
