Yes the Kidds are still in service. They are likely about to undergo major upgrades here soon to extend their service life even further. VLS tubes, new radar, new CIWS and other tech. The Spruance class in general was in service for a pretty short period of time. Less then 20 years for some of the later ships. Hey Drach, all 3 ships that have been named Kidd are still afloat, is that a record?? Glad you are going to the USS Alabama, I'll definitely do my utmost to try and make it there. It's about a 3 hour drive for me from Louisiana. Its very exciting stuff. It does make me a little sad that the South Dakota herself wasnt preserved, though I know you couldnt park her up in her namesake state. The Washington is a different story and she should have most definitely been preserved. She was one of the few American battleships to sink another battleship in a straight up fight. Also, I hope they portray the HMS Thunderchild correctly in the upcoming War of Worlds tv show. That is possibly my favorite part of the book. I do love an electric boogaloo...especially one with the Japanese Navy of the mid 1930s kicking the Soviet Navy in their little communist heads.
