THis is the recipe of the particularly British state - socialists pretty much uninterrupted since 1945. The 'Tories' were avowed 'we are all socialisrts now' from 45 to 79. The ONLY regime that modestly cut the state spend, added a modicum of personal wealth and inter-genertional wealth was the Thatcher regime. After that sharp reversal.
The consequences of state fiscal and monetary policy was de-industrialisation, cultural evisceration, the creation of a poverty leve find nowhere else in the developed world - even thought eh UK is a VERY low productivity, low living standard, low-value added rentier economy and society.
The private school rabbit for the socialist hounds to eat is a ratchet towards an already extremely soviet state.
I hear nothing from the left that suggests the degenerate policies they applied from 1945 will other than intensify.
Thus I rejoice in not any longer living there.
The angle of decline is steeper, after the madnesses of Brown Blaire, then the insanity of the removal of the Conservatives and their replacement by ultra radical nationalist brexit populists.
Both parties are a mirror to the catastrophe.
There is no hope there. The private schools are a problem because the state schools are dreadful.
The Private health system is a problem because the NHS is appalling.
Neither party in that miserable bitter failed island society have any ideas to change any of the rot there.
The woman sounds like a standard bitter enforcing leftie from 1945.
He sounds economical with the actualite.
Hopeless place.
Emigrate if you possibly can
BY the way, I was educated at a Grammar School, and there was probably an arithmetic majority of poor and working-class kids there. They were culturally disadvantaged, not be the 11 plus.
I understand that 0ver 85% of the professional cadres in England are populated by the products of the private schools which educate about 10% of the indigenous.
A disaster. Indian caste system, not a European country
BUT
Labour loves a captive electorate of dirt poor people; their urban funding policies and so much else guarantee it continues.
The Cons loathe the middle classes.
19th Century Britian seems eternal. But with none of the advantages the 19th century bestowed upon it.

Pitiful disconnected English arrogance. Where would one prefer to live, Fascistic Britain, or, at worst, nationalist France? No contest. France every time. Look AT YOUR FILTHY HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, HOUSING, PREDATORY FINANCE, CRIMINAL SOCIAL SERVICE STANDARDS, DREADFUL CLASS DIVIDES, MASSIVE INEQUALITY, ROTTEN HOUSING STOCK. Not forgetting the declining living standard since 1945. relative to the countries of the world. Not a first world country now. Declining very fast. It is not a Conservative Party. It is a combination of new and old evils bundled together and designed to abuse the population
Worth shouting about, it is so bad. This channel seems utterly disconnected from the lives of most oppressed English people. I am amazed there is not revolution and rage expressed in the country.

The point of the inquiry is to give the false impression to the proles that they have some kind of influence on the corrupted state.
Nothing more.
Cynical marketing techniques as old as time.
Hancock is the new Guy Fawkes.
It is that same state whose clearly ruthless present Head of State lied about Mau Mau and cosied up to tribal Africans and the inheritors of extreme violence (NOT any sort of freedom struggle, an obvious unhidden inter tribal violence that also slaughtered Europeans in large numbers) and in the course dumping on the people his parents relied upon to sustain their political economy in Africa under different circumstances.
The state consumes its subjects, at will, to sustain centres of power and control.
Hence the mindset of the Mail, the Mirror, the Express, each saying to their prole supporters 'THEY are doing 'it' (whatever oppression 'it' happens to be at the time) to US'
But not to the Harmsorths of this world. They are just fine. They are always just fine, as Murdoch and the rest are just fine now.
One minute the soldiers, the police, the civil servants sustaining the state are cynically sold as heroes and given medals and such like, a full generation or so later, they are sold as the racist suppressors of a violent dead and evil Imperial system.
My, the Chinese must be snapping at the heels of the West in East Africa! I guess the British are fearful of the French experience in north west Africa to resort to this nonsense.
Then there is the fools-gold glory of the so called Commonwealth. Got to give that a lease of life for the Head of State not to be a mere local papier-mache would-be Autocrat.
Not forgetting Obama's daddy, and the even more cyclical British sending bucket loads of compensatory money to mau man retirees to make Obama feel little docile PC Britain was his friend. Crawling creates contempt.
Read Rory Stewart's utterly depressing but clearly honest book on Kenya/Africa and the irrelevance of the British there now !!!
If I were a servant of the British state, and I were asked to put my life on the line, say to confront the Muslims in their violent marches through British cities, by the ministers appointed by this King's Prime Minister, I would refuse
I would go home, have a cup tea, a slice of cake, and avoid the next monarch, in fifty years time or so, sidling up to the Muslim government there in Number 10 and saying that I was a bloodthirsty monster of a policeman in trying to suppress the righteous Muslim marches in 2023.
No no no.
Stay at home police army and security people. Drink tea, eat cake, play with your children, cuddle your wives and girlfriends and have nothing to do with your corrupted power elites.
You are in their descendent's sights.

Anyone fully familiar with the hard science or global land-surface resource potential and climate change knows perfectly well that the Net Zero by 2050 is a monumental fraud, to be characterised by near total ineffectiveness.
Of course the Green Lobby, with its effective removal of nuclear from the energy supply equation for all but 50 years, the cessation of the development of fast breeder reactors as a result of the Green anarchy, and now their absurd nonsense concerning cattle, rather than simply identifying the obvious need to de-concentrate cattle production and transhumance cattle across marginal grasslands to stop desertification, as happens in Zim, South Africa, and is beginning in South America as a reversal of the concentrated feedstock trend is the way forward. It must now be clear that the global temperature will be a least plus 3 C over preindustrial 1900, and 3.3. over pre industrial measured honestly at 1750. Between Corporate marketing machines and Islington Green idiocy leavened by corrupt frightened so-called 'governments', this engine of destruction will not be stopped, and indeed barely slowed. Grown ups know this. They are few and far between though.

@steveis33 The law, in most circumstances, suggests that 'ignorance is no defence'. That applies here .The broad mass of your electorate is composed of people of around average, maybe a little above, often significantly below the mean IQ. That means for very many, they have not the means nor the inclination to grasp complex, sophisticated, multvariate matters. Nor do they like to engage in conceptual thought. Normally that does matter. A bone head with a red flag screams 'workers demand more' on the one hand, and a faux-toff ( and perhaps now and then a real one) screams ' Do not give in to the overspenders, tradition is what counts', waving often a little blue flag, and then the people vote for their ancient and moth-eaten prejudices. ( there used to be a nice little yellow flag argument for the earnest kind-hearted intellectuals but that sees to have been largely dispensed with now) Brexit was something else. And there, your mass universal suffrage democracy simply spawned liars, mountebanks, common snake-oil salesmen, street odd-balls, the odd peddler of limited 'truth' and even people like Johnson and Red Buses and Turks-soon-to-be-Under-The-Bed. It was open season on referendum nonsense. And your Parliament had it s legs shot out at the knee. In all of that, NO intelligent, complex, sophisticated, conceptualisation of any sort of future. So your hordes did what they always did. Dusted off their often (but not always) mindless prejudices, and marked their cards. There is no 'pro' to nationalism, to jingoism, to foreigner-hate, to xenophobia, to the marketing cynicism that is 'global Britian'. There are only 'cons'. So you are, as the Bard would say but never did, entirely 'stuffed'.

The argument about present day debt, and all the silly impedimenta to independence should be set in the context of the dreadful Scottish poverty, the poverty of ambition, the lack of creative force, and the living standard that is, for example, only 65% that of Denmark, a country of far less natural resource, but which can define precisely what it wants to do, and even after losing half the country to Prussia in the late 9th Century, is brim full of drive and confidence., Go to Scotland to sense the repressed anger and sense of repression. IT IS PALPABLE. The Empire, a wonderful thing of quite unparalleled achievement since Rome, but hated by the present day pigmy-minded, pigmy-achievers that are the English inheritors, is over, and so is the Union. it has NO function now.
Neil is so very stuffy now, BBCised, conventional. Sharp, often wise, but like Dimbleby, stale. He could change that, by contemplating the future free of the accretion of his past and its preconceptions. I think he can do better. I do hope that he does.

No sane person could pretend that Britain runs a 'capitalist' economy; it is full of special interest restrictions that would be utterly intolerable in the country that actually does run a capitalist economy. Corruptions there are really ultra-sophisticated, deeply embedded, and so long-standing as to be largely invisible. It is as corrupted as could be; how the benighted largely abused and often impoverished population labours under all these difficulties one really does wonder - but of course ordinary English people have always been kicked, ever so cleverly, in the gonads, by whichever ruling group that happens to find itself in a position to abuse and oppress. Compared with the dreadful and ever-worse reality in brexit England, places running more socially integrated societies such as France, Sweden, Holland, Norway, Finland are vastly nicer places to live for the overwhelming majority of the citizenry. Sturgeon is a reaction generated by a Scotland which has a living standard not much higher than 60% that of small, resource-starved Denmark. What does Neil want??? He seems a strange man now. Has he not seen the grim reality of his country of accent???

A large piece of glass in the window illustrating the total insanity that has afflicted Britain, all but continuously, since 1945, with flake after flake doing their bit to drive a once massively rich, powerful, imperial monoculture into utter irredeemable misery, failure, poverty for a large proportion of the population, and accelerating disaster from which, in an ultra-competitive world, no real recovery is possible now. The Spectator, like the Tory-graph, is it would seem dominated by the new generation of, in the main, what seems to be post-juvenile loon-tunes from what I hear and read of them.
Only an idiot would think shifting to a new tax regime as advertised by her and her so-called 'Chancellor' in the middle of inflation, massive state debt and even more ruinous personal debt levels, pitiful trade data, collapsed currency value when the US Dollar that is the backbone of the Pound is seeing rapid interest rate rises and real tax increases could do other than smash the currency and the sterling bond market. Simple competence in economics, relevant experience intellect and gleaned wisdom is all you need there. And for Statecraft, it is all non-optional. But the Hedge Funds were cheering on in the background. Not to be ignored. And perhaps at cocktail parties as well? Got to keep the people who REALLY matter content.
Including the neo-but-not-really-Thatcherite weirdos.
