They will never be independent if they want to maintain the same level of living standard

@Miningfox they are not primitives, they can't sustain themselves especially if they start closing mines, you genius
31
@bleskiven You can't have only rights without duties
28
People are blinded by ideologies
25
@vrenak And Denmark is not a devil at all
25
@-haclong2366 a lot of people don't make rational decision, unfortunately
23
Unfortunately, nationalism is not rational
18
They're more clever than the new Caledonians
13
@RodrigoroRex Switzerland mined all mountain pass that connects it to Germany, Austria and Italy and those mines are still there and ready to be engaged. Anyway, nowadays its position determines that it is defended by the surrounding countries
12
So many independentist around think they'll become even richer as soon as they get independence, but reality shows that the opposite is more frequent
7
@herrensaar1989 this reminds me of the Mexico paying for Trump's wall...
6
@plasmacannon1198 considering they won't get money from Denmark anymore, they'll have to make more deals with the Americans and Chinese corporations anyway
6
@herrensaar1989 I understand their sentiment
6
@vrenak there are way to legally corrupt someone or at least to keep it secret, even if judges are honest
5
That is why they don't spend too much in air force, they have the large French Italian and German air forces to protect them
5
Indeed, very similar to New Caledonia
4
@MaelPlaguecrow6942 So you don't wish it
4
@emib6599 a lot of areas with nationalist movements already have great autonomy (Greenland is one example) but their demands are ideological. The only independence movement I understand are the ones moved by economic reasons
4
@KarthikAyyalasomayajula Yes but they'd need to radically change their economic system and be super pro mines. The world is full of countries rich of natural resources which are so poor
4
@Wichita0 Do you know how much money do they get from Denmark? Do you know how many in Greenland work as public employees?
4
@Duck-wc9de they're deluded at best
3
@SophiaAstatine Well what do they want then? Without Denmark there will be China or the US or both. THis is obvious
2
@RodrigoroRex Oh yes, that is possible

Greenland in not in the EU
1
I mean that they left in '85
1
@huldanoren951 oh
1
It's not risky, it's just stupid! Especially if they want to stop mining projects
1
It is also part of Denmark and EU is first of all a political entity
1
@DaDunge not anymore, no. But it's part of Denmark which is a EU county. I imagine that's the reason why it's here
1
@nothernstar2576 They would be sold to the chinese
1
@nothernstar2576 Ah well that is true
1
@SophiaAstatine I don't know how much Denmark gains from retaining Greenland
1
It would be a disaster for Greenland
1
@theemperor6413 Yep
1
Why did New Caledonia asked for independence referendum when 50 of their GDP consist of subsidies from France? Nationalist ideologies over rationality
