I came from rural California town, and suffered from the shitty education you get there. The only private school was run by the Jesuits, so it was public school for me. My high school had no AP classes, and didn't even offer calculus. When I got my degree in microbiology at UCLA, I had a lot of catching up to do. Other HS friends tried to survive science in the UC system, and all flunked out. Until the Democratic party starts recognizing that rural schools are worse than inner-city schools, that a lot of inequity is not due to race but location, and tries to address that disparity, rural voters will continue to vote Republican. But, keep insulting them, because that strategy has worked so well.

@ce4616 Our side has its crazies too. And, many voters find our nuttiness scarier than theirs. When people are upset because their children haven't been to school in a year, and our side is in lockstep with the teachers' union, they think we're out of touch. When terrible, destructive riots occur, and crime is on the rise, and we call them peaceful protests, and talk about defunding the police, many voters think we are both deluded and dangerous. When inflation just keeps getting worse, and our answer is to pump more money into the system, with big spending bills that only help a small segment of the population, voters think we don't care. It's all very good, to point out the lunacy of the other side, but not if we ignore the lunacy on ours. And a comment full of all caps, and spelling errors, doesn't make anything we say seem thoughtful. (hint credible, not creditable)
