The same white hat hacker warned the secretary of state of Georgia of this vulnerability prior to the 2016 elections. He sent a proof of concept script to him. He was thanked, and asked to keep it secret. He tried to hack the database again after the elections, found it was still vulnerable, and started contacting people. Now that elections are here again, he's gotten a bit more frantic, and that's why people outside of IT security are hearing about it. Why hasn't this been fixed?
