First, these were public postings. Second, if a person has posted a record of their criminality privately, that should be grounds for a warrant to monitor all their communications. There never was an expectation of privacy using social media.

@disorganizedorg Unless you're posting all your movements and habits on social media, you have no worries. And if you are, you are too self absorbed to be listened to.

Of course the police should monitor social media, and look for those criminals posting their crimes, or potential crimes. The only people who would be hurt by this are criminals. The idea that black or muslim people would be hurt by this, pre-supposes that they are the all criminals, which is rather racist. Considering the huge bandwidth of social media, this is a perfect application for AI to monitor all postings. And the idea that monitoring public posts would hurt privacy is ludicrous, as they are not private to begin with. Just as preventing Trump from posting threats does not chill free speech, having AI monitor public posts, plotting crimes, is not an invasion of privacy.

Let's get all the criminals, who abuse our society, off the streets, before we worry about the minor matter of criminals being abused.

Considering the huge numbers of crimes, looting and vandalism mostly, associated with the BLM riots, Boston police monitoring public posts about BLM sounds like a good precaution. It certainly doesn't hurt law abiding protestors, only those who took advantage of those gatherings, to commit heinous crimes. Good job Boston.
