  1. Sell all the capital ships and make more submarines. Cheaper. less pomp and circumstance. It would also change the submariners' life, once an admiral or two had been trapped aboard one for his flagship.

  2. USN Subs sank 75% of the Japanese merchant fleet and close to 100% of its tankers. USN/UK/Deu/Nihonese Battleships? Not so much. Compared to the subs, capital ships were a waste of armor and fuel. An argument can be made for retention of carriers, but why? Subs can do the job safer. Let LeMay worry about land targets.

  4. Thanks. If you don't mind a reply, I did not limit land based air. The submarine base will, of course, have suitable defense. FlaK. CAP. Land based planes will do just fine.
