If SS Normandie had been converted into an aircraft carrier, is it possible that the twin-engine F7F Tigercat would've been deployed on her? Historically, the early models of the Tigercat weren't carrier-certified, but would the much longer deck of a USS Lafayette have made the relatively high landing speed less of a problem? It seems as if such a fast, long-ranged, and heavily-armed fighter would've been really useful against kamikazes.

When it comes to all-forward cruiser designs...the 17,500 ton concept that was part of the design process eventually leading to Dunkerque, even though it had 305mm guns and by Washington Treaty standards would be a capitol ship, was really more of a cruiser. Only armored against 203mm guns and only a few thousand tons heavier than the Deutschland-class heavy cruisers.
