  3. There was also the French Latecoere 298, which was specifically designed for use as a shipboard torpedo and dive bomber. It was about the same speed as the TBD Devastator despite the extra drag of its pair of floats. Granted, the TBD was terrible by the time of WW2, but it's still impressive for a floatplane to have similar performance to its non-floatplane contemporary. Had the Late 299 (the non-floatplane version) gone past the prototype stage it probably would've made for a good bomber for the planned French carriers. (I'm still waiting for the seaplane tender Commandant Teste with Late 298 bombers and Loire 210 fighters as a low-tier premium aircraft carrier in World of Warships. Since CVs aren't going to be removed, we should get the funny stuff at least.)
