  1. USS White Plains claimed to have hit Choukai six times with her 5"/38 gun, actually. Given that such a gun could be fired every 3 to 5 seconds (depending on the skill of the gun crew), scoring multiple hits on a 203m long cruiser isn't exactly implausible. But with Haguro's after-action report saying that it was bombs that crippled Choukai, that's the more likely cause of her torpedo rack detonating.
