@gokbay3057 Those two lack any of the excuses, though. The USA was richer than it's ever been in the 1950s, so it's not like we couldn't have afforded to preserve Enterprise. She also wasn't nearly as beaten up as Warspite, since her battle damage had already been repaired (rather than merely patched over). And apparently there'd been a plan to hand her over to New York in 1949 that was cancelled for, apparently no particular reason. And similarly, West Germany was flush with cash when Turkey offered to sell Yavuz back to them in 1963. As the last battlecruiser and the only representative of the High Seas Fleet left, such a historically important relic should've been preserved.

The problem with Warspite is that she was in bad shape at the end of WW2 (that Fritz X did a number on her). I presume it wasn't just for quick bucks that she was scrapped (since scrapping a warship nets the navy pretty minimal money, as drach mentioned in a recent Drydock), but that restoring her to any condition to be a museum ship would've been an expensive prospect for a nation that was bankrupted by the war.

@timmy3822 Britain invented the battleship and battlecruiser, but none have been preserved. Fortunately a British-made pre-dreadnought still survives in Japan, at least.

@Bird_Dog00 Beatty also proceeded to toss Commander Seymour under the bus once his actions at Jutland came under question, as if it wasn't Beatty's own fault that he chose such an incompetent officer to handle his signals.

@timmy3822 Britain didn't solely invent the concept, but they were still the first to build both pre-dreadnought and dreadnought battleships. And truly did solely invent the battlecruiser. The fact that no post-age of sail British capital ships have been preserved is really unfortunate. Warspite would've been a difficult prospect given all the damage she'd accumulated, and Valiant wasn't in great shape either. But Renown would've been an excellent choice, being both historically important and in good shape. Or if we went back even earlier than that, Dreadnought could've been kept as a museum ship when she was retired. As Mikasa shows, that was an acceptable way to dispose of a warship under the naval treaties. Imagine if she and Warrior were sitting side by side in Portsmouth now.

@TheBrainSpecialist They usually spend at least some time as active duty military, not just reservists. George VI's younger brother even died in WW2 as an RAF pilot, while at the time being 3rd in line to the throne after the king's two daughters. Prince Andrew (the one the royals want to pretend doesn't exist anymore) flew a Sea King in the Falklands as literally a missile decoy. And most recently, Prince Harry saw combat as a Apache co-pilot/gunner in Afghanistan. It's only the Prince of Wales (usually over their own objections) who get kept out of harm's way in wartime.
