Regarding that Bath Iron Works question, I went back to Drydock 88 to get your answer from before and I'd like to point out another strong example for the "Bath built is best built" reputation: the unsinkable USS Laffey (DD-724), which survived 4 bombs and 6 kamikazes in a single engagement.

Also, even if a Tiger really was 6-10 times as effective as a Sherman, the fact is that about 25 Shermans were built for every Tiger.

With regard to "salvaging" Amagi... Would Japan have been able to get away with, after scrapping Amagi on the slipway, then using that scrapped material to build a new aircraft carrier and insisting that the new ship was still Amagi (and thus allowed to be up to 33,000 tons instead of the regular treaty limit of 27,000 tons)?

05:35:54 The question here was whether there were ships designed with all-aft armament. There is one significant example of this that I'm aware of. Behold, Scheme F of the design series that led to USS North Carolina: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:North_Carolina_class_scheme_F.jpg The main armament is a pair of quad 14"/50 gun turrets, while the bow is devoted to fairly extensive seaplane facilities with 3 catapults and an elevator to a small hangar deck. And with the citadel shortened as much as it was by this layout, the belt armor was a fairly absurd 17 inches thick, meaning this abomination would be better-armored than Yamato.
