With regard to the potential of a 1920s war between the US and UK stemming from the naval arms race...the funny thing is that the USN and RN were sharing their designs with each other during that time. The Royal Navy literally brought complete blueprints of HMS Hood and handed them over to the US Navy, and this was used to make alterations to the design of the Lexington-class battlecruisers. (Though they drew all the wrong lessons and the Lexingtons would've been deathtraps had they been completed as CCs and been used in a capital ship role.)
