@Paladin1873 That was actually a naming scheme that came about by accident. The Lexington-class battlecruisers were all named after famous warships of the American Revolution or the War of 1812, and two of those (which happened to also have the names of famous battles) ended up as the US Navy's first proper fleet carriers. So from then onward, naming carriers after famous warships of the past was the pattern the USN went with. But then during WW2, they found themselves building literally hundreds of aircraft carriers, and needed more names. At that point it occurred to them that most of those famous warships of the past had been named for battles in the Revolution, and thus battles in general would make a pretty good theme.

That photo of a 100mm gun was one of the turrets on an Akizuki-class destroyer. IIRC, Taiho's mounts were open pedestels rather than turrets.
