@richardm3023 The 1957 Asian flu pandemic killed an estimated 116,000 Americans, and the 1968 Hong Kong flu killed about 100,000. COVID is well on pace to kill more Americans than both of them combined. (Actually, there's a good chance that it already has. Unlike with past epidemics or even the seasonal flu, the CDC has yet to make any estimate of the total COVID deaths. The number verified deaths for every pandemic has always been lower than the estimated total, because the estimate's purpose is to include those people who died without ever being diagnosed.) And the "Spanish flu" almost certainly came from Kansas. The China hypothesis is a much worse fit with the known evidence for its origin.

@jasondiaz8431 That's a theory that's been put forth...but the spread of the Spanish Flu doesn't actually match up at all with the Canadian railroads that the Chinese workers were travelling on, so it's not very likely.

@nickestep7821 In fact, the real death toll is significantly higher than 200k. Thousands more have died without being tested.
