@jarink1 Which ships get preserved as museums also has more to do with luck and timing than with the historical significance of the individual ships. For example, HMS Belfast ended up as a museum ship because she simply lasted the longest of the British WW2 cruisers. As the physically largest of the wartime cruisers, she had more room for upgraded with modern radars and fire control systems, and being much newer than the similarly-sized County class heavy cruisers she stayed in service all the way to 1963. This meant she had gotten the most recent refit by the time the Imperial War Museum decided in 1967 that they wanted to preserve a cruiser, and was in far better condition than any other wartime cruiser they could've chosen from.
