Q&A: Given Japan's willingness to blatantly cheat at every turn on their treaty limitations, when Amagi was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake, why didn't they just built a new aircraft carrier from scratch (at the larger 33,000 ton limit for conversions), call it Amagi, and insist that it was a conversion of the battlecruiser hull? Kaga's shorter hull was less than ideal for a CV conversion, after all.
