  1.  @thatontariofarmer  IIRC, the WW2 battleship HMS King George V was originally going to be named King George VI. It had long been common practice for one of the first capital ships of a monarch's reign to be named after him or her. But George VI preferred the ship be named after his father. And since that battleship remained in commission for the rest of his reign, it would've been confusing to have both HMS King George V and HMS King George VI. At any rate, it was announced in May that the 4th Dreadnought-class missile submarine will be HMS King George VI.

  2. I'd always thought that the lack of CATOBAR was a mistake in limiting the ship's flexibility. But whether that actually turns out to be limiting depends on how aircraft development goes in the future. It could well end up that you'll have no reason to even want non-STOVL aircraft, if the technology advances to the point that there's no actual downside compared to conventional jets. I still think you guys ought to invest in a tilt-rotor AEW aircraft, since an AEW helicopter can only fly so high and thus can't see nearly as far, though.

  3. I still think it's just wrong to not have an aircraft carrier named Ark Royal. Just like the US Navy needs to always have an Enterprise.
