Ireland will certainly not be equipping itself with first rate interceptor aircraft to somehow drive passing Tu-95 Bears far out from its shores. Ireland’s only threat lies right on its doorstep, it has no claims, debts, liabilities or dependence on Russia and the Russian interest is in the doorstep country that keeps submarine launched ICBMs targeted on Russia. Ireland is enthusiastic about being an integrated member of the European Union, its security lies in the economic clout and solidarity of the EU not in trying to be a very small but militarily potent neutral country pointlessly looking to antagonise a third party for somebody else’s benefit. Ireland keeps sufficient aircraft and ships to monitor and protect its marine interests. It has a small army that has done noble service with UN peace keeping. That is being an independent neutral country in the real world.

Put up a couple of big "Bomb Over There" signs pointing EAST.

You know the basic North Sea geography? The point of the poster’s fantasy is that Ireland somehow starts wanting to threaten force against Russian Tu-95 Bears passing down the Eastern Atlantic. Even that fantasy couldn’t envisage an Irish military giving a damn about England’s east coast.

@jeffho1727 There it's not aboot tradition.

No sane country would want F-35s if they were not tied by no withdrawal contracts (or getting them effectively free). The USAF wants a lot of cheaper new fighters.

This post was pure B.S. The Bear doesn’t bother Ireland in the least.

Where!

We? mm.... there are a lot of comments from the country that has an actual history of military violence against Ireland, why should the people of Ireland give a damn about Russian aircraft passing to the west of Britain? come to think of it did Britain invade Russia in the 1920s or did Russia invade Britain? Did Russian bombers cross British territory in the Cold War, the RAF did it in Russia using loaned B-46s gaining intelligence for Curtiss Le May and the USAF’s SAC. The worst scenario for Ireland is forgetting about neutrality, it serves Sweden, Switzerland and Austria well too.

Only bullshi**ers say they do.

@imedi Do you think Ireland is in NATO or something?
1
They have had PC 9 trainers for ages, better than the Shorts Tucano.
1
You were going on about the post war Luftwaffe training.
1
Shorts are in the English ruled 6 counties and they only do sub contractor-type work building structures.

I think your comment might have gone to the wrong place, I was saying the Irish military 100% couldn’t care less about what happens under, on and above the North Sea even in the extremely unlikely event that they were to find themselves somehow in actual need of first rate fighter aircraft.
1
Mmm .... what possible grounds would they have for regarding you and your kind as bigoted and hostile?
1
So, four years on from this incredible, unbelievable revelation….. how much truth was there in it?
1
You ignored their last combat jets, the de Havilland Vampire. They never had any use for them and they hardly see Atlantic Tu 95 Bears as any sort of a threat to Ireland. Their best defense planes are the military transports for their U.N. peace keeping contribution, they are most unlikely to consider supporting some sort of Tony Blair invasion any time soon.

So who is the potential enemy?
1
Who says the RAF are friendly?
1
So one year on how much ‘Truth’ was there in this exclusive revelation video?
1
So have armed hostile nation Typhoons flown in Irish airspace?
1
UK is the beeping threat!

So, one and a half years on from this incredible, unbelievable revelation….. how much truth was there in it?

The Czechs and Poles were glad to see the back of the Nazis.
