  1. Whatever you want to do is accepted in a hyper modern and individualistic society maybe but in collective or even somewhat traditional societies and historically it was stigmatized when you stayed single and don't start a family and sometimes even now it's considered schizoid behavior

  2. ​​ @questioneverything1224 that's true sometimes and other times people judge when you don't go with the norm or you don't do what everyone else in the family did it's not always because they're miserable or think they made the wrong choice

  4.  @tomc4187  the societal norm was to marry and have kids doesn't mean you have to follow the norm especially in a liberal society you can do what you want today... back in my grandparents day you didn't do whatever you wanted you went to WW2 when you were 18 and when you were a kid you worked half the time

  5. It's not an either or thing y'all do a lot of black and white thinking you can be happy or miserable with spouse and kids and you can be happy or miserable alone and there are plenty of people who are alone and hate it and who have been rejected and hate it what about those people!

  6. It's annoying but that is kind of the point of norms is across time periods and societies they had things in place most were expected to adhere to and since they were set as norms you can be stigmatized for not following them and marriage and kids was always a norm for better or worse
