Hello Everyone! I just want to clarify that this is one group of Amish out of many. Their opinions and views on life are theirs and do not represent all Amish people. Most of this group are Beachy Amish and Marcus (the older man) is New-Order Amish. Beachy Amish are the most liberal Amish with the most amount of modernity in their lives. This is why I was able to record this conversation. When we "English" (all people that aren't Amish) say "Amish" we categorize many different types of Amish into one group and this is why this can get so confusing.
For example, the Beachy Amish can have cars and electricity in their homes. The Schwartzentruber Amish are the Amish who chose to live away from modernity completely (without cars, phones, etc.) and are quite often the Amish we think of when we think of the Amish.
Here is an oversimplified list of different types of Amish I met while in Holmes County, Ohio:
-SWARTZENTRUBER AMISH (the most conservative and most removed from the modern world)
-DAN AMISH (somewhat removed from everybody else, conservative)
-OLD-ORDER AMISH (can't drive vehicles but some of them can ride as passengers, only have steel wheels on their carriages, not rubber. Allow Rumspringer--their youth to explore the world and "try things out").
-NEW-ORDER AMISH (Broke away from the Old Order Amish. Less conservative than Old Order, but more conservative in the sense that they don't promote Rumspringer, they use rubber on their carriage wheels, use more modern sliding doors on their carriages, some have phones.
-BEACHY AMISH (The most accepting of the modern world and the closest to the most conservative Mennonites. This is the group in the video)
There are many other sects and to confuse things even more each sect has different rules depending on their church.
None of the Amish are easy to open up like this on camera and it's only because of Josh that we got in with this beautiful group of people.
In the next few weeks, I'll have a video inside a Schwartzentruber's home. They agreed to let me film as long as I didn't show their faces. It was a surreal experience, to say the least. I will also have some videos for you with Old-Order Amish people.
I hope you enjoy this series! Like most things in life, there's much more beneath the surface with a lot of complexity mixed in. I hope you find as much joy in discovering the Amish as I have. See you next Sunday!

Chicago is a pro when it comes to corruption. But corruption isn't just a Chicago issue, corruption exists everywhere, just on different levels. When I lived in Ukraine corruption was clear as day and in your face. In the United States, it's usually not as obvious, as in a police officer can't just pull you over and demand a bribe. But as I canvas the country making this content, I'm realizing corruption is much more of an issue than I was aware of just years ago. It makes me wonder what's going on behind the scenes in my town.
Sources to support Benjamin's claims:
1. Chicago public school’s awful performance: https://chicago.chalkbeat.org/2023/8/3/23817681/chicago-public-schools-illinois-assessment-readiness or see Illinois Policy Institute’s analysis: https://www.illinoispolicy.org/reports/trapped-in-chicagos-worst-schools-education-outcomes-in-chicagos-lowest-performing-public-schools/#:~:text=More%20than%2021%2C000%20students%20in,in%20reading%2C%20science%20and%20math.
2. Professor Simpson ranking Chicago as the most corrupt city in the nation based on the number of public corruption convictions: https://pols.uic.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/273/2022/05/Corruption-Rpt-14-on-5-7-22-final.pdf
3. The City of Chicago, Office of Inspector General’s parking meter lease financial analysis: https://igchicago.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Parking-Meter-Report.pdf . In the Public Interest’s short article about the same and how bad the deal was:
https://inthepublicinterest.org/the-worst-privatization-deal-in-u-s-history-just-got-even-worse/ .
4. General Aviation News, covering the fines the City of Chicago had to pay for its illegal destruction of Meigs Field: https://generalaviationnews.com/2006/10/06/chicago-to-pay-over-1-million-for-destruction-of-meigs-field/ .
True enough, Mayor Daley cited safety reasons as the need to exercise dictatorial powers to destroy the field. Most folks exercising an abuse of power will cite public safety as their need to exercise such power
5. Information on ownership of the Chicago Skyway shared between Canadian and Australian investors: https://financialpost.com/pmn/business-pmn/australian-firm-defies-top-investor-buys-chicago-skyway-stake-from-canada-pensions .
Some corrections from Benjamin:
1. In my first discussion about cashless bail, I accidentally state “convicted” instead of “arrested.” I state that correctly later in the recording. Simple mix-up.
2. Similarly, I sometimes say “Spot Shotter” instead of “Shot Spotter” as a simple conversational mistake.
3. Apparently, I was slightly off on property taxes, as Illinois (2.05 percent) is the second worst in the nation just under New Jersey (2.21 percent).
4. Several commenters were “shocked” or “surprised” I didn’t mention x person or y story. There’s only so much time and space to discuss many examples of corruption.
5. Several old school Chicagoans complained I pronounced Pulaski incorrectly. I employ ordinary English pronounced in an ordinary accent when speaking.

Many people have been saying I'm a journalist lately, and thank you for the positive comments. I actually don't look at myself as a journalist, I'm somewhere in between a travel vlogger and a journalist. These videos are just a byproduct of my curiosity about the world and different people's perspectives. I used to get into all sorts of situations without a camera, and then I started making YouTube videos and realized other people are curious about these stories too. I'm honored to be able to create a living out of this so thank you to all who watch my videos. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I get it wrong, but I strive in every video for authenticity and truth (which is often a moving target, especially in complex situations).
I got sick of seeing what the world looked like through the mainstream media, I'm guessing many of you are too, so here's an alternative. This isn't a replacement for journalism, the world does need more good investigative journalists going in deep on stories like this one. But where are they for this story about the border?! And I'm not talking biased trigger bait. It's arguably the biggest story in the country right now but we're hearing almost nothing about it. There's North Korean-style secrecy to massive processing facilities that are growing exponentially, journalists not allowed inside of them. That in itself is insane, we're in the USA, right? So that's why I decided to do this series.
My channel is another angle in and usually done in a more personal style with the aim of connecting with people on the ground in the places I go, to bring you closer to what it feels like without going there. Thanks again to all of you who support me 🙌.
This is part 2 of a 6-part series and the other episodes can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO9403nTTKI&list=PLEyPgwIPkHo7oGGY1h_9iAcWeehf0lTIL

► NOTE: This trip was filmed back in December.
I had to take out a couple of parts of this video. Let me explain why. My goal in my work is always to go deeper into a culture and connect with locals to show things that can't just be read from Wikipedia. In this video, the guide touched on some taboo topics. First, the guide talked about the history of Mutahs (a traditional relationship agreement that a minority of people participated in). This was outlawed in the early 1970s and came from Persia.
Secondly, he exposed the fact that there are "land gangsters" in Lahore that actually use their power and influence to take over apartments illegally from residents who might be out of the city. They pay officials, change documents, and use intimation to carry out their criminality. Yes, this exists.
It took the guide great courage to say these things on camera; I triple checked with him that it was okay to use this content. Well as one might guess, some religious authorities, land-mob types, and the police went after him. He's been stripped of his tour-guiding license for 6 months and has had to deal with various forms of intimidation. For his safety, I removed these sections.
Youtube is notoriously a septic tank for people dropping their pain and hate if something is shown that they don't agree with. Perhaps some of the guide's content was exaggerated, he might not have gotten everything right, there are also some language issues since English isn't his first language, but a the end of the day he gave this tour of his city with deep knowledge, heart, and pride. And to make it very clear, there are probably 1 out of 1000 guides that you can make a 30-minute video with that will be interesting enough to watch.
The vast majority of my content is positive--I focus on humanizing parts of the world that have been demonized by the western press--but I also like to present all of what I see. I don't want to sugarcoat things. Sometimes I don't always get things right but I try my hardest to show you the most authentic and truthful story I can find. This is not a vlog for telling you how cheap everything is and smashing a sandwich into the lens of the camera. And by no means do I expect everyone to agree with me on what I show. Criticism is fair game and some of it has really helped me make better content. My style often brings up certain cultural aspects that might be conflictive and I don't give clear answers. Just because I show something doesn't mean I agree or disagree with it. And it also doesn't mean it doesn't exist if it doesn't align with your values. It's for you to make your own opinion or challenge your own thoughts. That's what I like personally so that's the content I deliver to you.
If you have any thoughts to add in regards to this situation with this video please do so in the conversation here with a comment and I'll try my best to return to all of them :)
I have roughly 7 more episodes from Pakistan to come. I'm trying to post every Tuesday and Friday. I filmed this in December so I'm at home and tucked into my apartment with no travel plans. I hope you are staying safe and healthy :)
Thanks for being part of this!

► Filmed Dec. 2019
When I said Karachi was the bass drum of megacities and that weak people can't survive there I really meant it! Usually, when a place hits so hard the people become hardened. But Karachi is an interesting anomaly; the people were soft and kind. Yeah, of course, there are jackasses and criminals everywhere, but for the most part, everyone was cool to me in a relaxed way. And in a relaxed way when the environment was anything but relaxed. So there is a really cool dynamic to the city and I need to return in the future to go deeper into the culture and make more videos about the city of lights.
Well, that's the end of my 10-part Pakistan series guys https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEyPgwIPkHo4enGho80iAV6rLn-850xw9
I'm happy with it overall. Some things I wish I conveyed better, and I didn't get everything right, but I definitely gave it my all. Thanks for being part of that ride :)
I'll probably do a YouTube Livestream next week to talk about Pakistan and answer any questions you might have and just connect with you all who have supported me by watching and messaging along the way. I'll post the date and time in the community tab in the next couple of days. And perhaps I'll make an overall video about Pakistan in a couple of weeks. I'm open to topic suggestions.
Take care guys! You all rock, and if you're from Karachi, you're rocking a little harder to the strongest bass drum on the planet :)

What's been the most surprising aspect for me making this series is learning that there are many different types of Amish people with different beliefs and different lifestyles. We, outsiders, tend to put one label on the Amish but as with most things, it's more complex than that.
Here is an oversimplified list of different types of Amish I met while in Holmes County, Ohio:
-SWARTZENTRUBER (the Amish in this video. The most conservative and most removed from the modern world).
-DAN AMISH (somewhat removed from everybody else, conservative).
-BEACHY AMISH (The most accepting of the modern world and the closest to the most conservative Mennonites).
If you want to see the other end of the Amish spectrum, the Beachy Amish, check out my last video here: https://youtu.be/EgY1SVXiBrU
Also, I have a lot more Amish content coming and the next one will drop Wednesday followed by Sunday. I'll be doing 2x a week Amish videos for the next couple of weeks. Enjoy! Watching the Amish definitely has a relaxing effect :)

In regards to the South Bronx, I researched the most dangerous neighborhoods in NYC by homicides. Mott Haven has some of the highest homicide rates so that's why I chose it. But as a non-local, it's hard to know what exact place is the most dangerous. Overall my goal was to show a human side to a place that outsiders might perceive negatively. I've done these "most dangerous hood" videos in Karachi, Pakistan, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and have ended up with the same results: cool interaction and warm people. Actually, it's in these neighborhoods where it's easier to connect with people than the wealthier places. Despite the problems in the South Bronx, there is a lot of soul and warmth. I enjoyed my time there, met great people, and I took in the vibrant culture pulsating through the streets. Fricking amazing food there too!
My goal in this video was to show a specific angle of New York City. But NYC has so many different sides! Whether that be the South Bronx, Jackson Heights, the Hasidic Jewish world, an old school NYC local in Manhattan, etc. If you liked this and want to see completely different stories in the same city check out my full New York City Playlist here that I'll be adding to in the next couple of weeks: https://bit.ly/2TmThlI

Correction from Shanna:
"I erroneously omitted that I was employed by the NIAID branch of the NIH, whose specialized focus was allergens and infectious disease research. NIH is made up of over two dozen institutes and Dr. Fauci was director of the specific institute that I worked for, not overarching umbrella of NIH. That said, it was not an internship as a few concluded, but a GS ranked job as a grants management specialist with accruals/benefits that would have extended if I had chosen to remain. When speaking later I mention a separate internship the context of which didn't make the cut due to video editing needs."
CITATIONS FOR THIS VIDEO 🎞
1. The Department of Homeland Security regularly purchases social media data from third-party vendors to spy on Americans. This is known as the “data broker loophole” because purchasing data instead of seizing it does not implicate the Fourth Amendment protection against such activity. Senators Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) and Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) have put forth a bipartisan bill to end this. Sources supporting this claim:

Thanks Super Chief, I appreciate the support. I get this question a lot so here's my answer... YouTube isn't a limiting place anymore. More people will see it here than if it was on most major networks. The distribution on YouTube is worldwide and easy to access. Plus my content on YouTube is evergreen which means it will be watched for years to come.
Also, I choose the stories I want to choose. I don't have to fit a narrative determined by a network. I can let the story tell itself. Many times I have no idea what my subjects will say but I let them speak. Quite often I don't agree with what they have to say but it's my job to open them up on camera and allow the viewer to see what their thoughts are and where they're coming from, and not to choke a narrative down the viewer's throat.
This story wouldn't be allowed on most networks, like much of my work. Say if the NYT, CNN, NPR or Vice is going to do a story on the border, most likely it will just be the story on legitimate asylum claims, which is a true story, but it's the minority story.
The majority of migrants now are economic migrants who are claiming asylum. The vast majority of migrants crossing illegally do not have legitimate asylum claims. These claims will not win in the courts that are backed up for years. It's a super complex topic and Americans have been misled for the most part, or at least no major organization is attempting at telling the full story of the border. And my video isn't the full story either, there are a lot of moving parts here, but what is in this video is story that gets little to no attention by other outlets.
And if some organization says they'd give me full creative control, and pay well for it, then I'm all ears... but I don't think that will happen, and I don't even think that would be the best scenario for me. YouTube is where the puck is goin so it's no longer on the sidelines. And for people like me who don't watch TV (and this population is growing) YouTube is the best place to reach them.
