  2. Sir: Just to clarify, Universal Basic income is not what you described ("if you make below..."). Its universal, regardless if you make $8,000 per year or $8.9 million per year. Its liked by many on both the right and left because of its simplicity, reduction of admin and bureacracy (eg no means testing), and it treats everyone equally.

Socialists: the govt provides national housing service, which gives everyone a home (similar to the national health service in UK). Conservatives: in exchange for lower or 0 corporate tax, companies, or chambers of commerce for local small businesses, provide a housing allowance pegged to the local average rent/mortgage. Libertarians/independents who don't like the above: give everyone UBI, paid via natural resource taxes. The UBI is designed to have no more than 50% be for housing costs.
