USA has 18000 police departments so it varies wildly. Also it depends which part of town you're in.

Workers forming a union to get decent working conditions in a private company is VERY different from police who are in public service forming a unuonmostly to prevent themselves from getting prosecuted or held accountable.

We also have people dying from diabetes, does that mean cancer foundations should stop talking? This is a classic whataboutism. Two problems can exist at the same time you know.

It's time we started talking about solutions to policing problems in America. There's a comprehensive analysis of police brutality in America with a good overview of the solutions to police brutality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIT_tcpzmQ&list=PLRE6vgY7NmNEJi3ucY_PKP0-lHddrmi5x&index=2&t=0s

@karenwoolley4279 I see what you're saying. They basically did that in Camden, they "abolished" the police by dissolving it and merging it with another department under a new contract, new training and a new union to great success

I hope he does a video on the situation in the Philippines. Shutting down opposition media, shooting lockdown violators, extrajudicial killings, authoritarianism seems to be on the rise. There's actually a great analysis detailing the rise of authoritarianism in the Philippines and how Duterte has remained so popular: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72mcga-A69I&list=PLRE6vgY7NmNFIQEXA9JXA5SczSRr6EETR&index=2&t=1s

It's funny from what I hear the military has better deescalation protocols than the police. If you're interested there's a comprehensive analysis of police brutality in America with a good overview of the solutions to police brutality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIT_tcpzmQ&list=PLRE6vgY7NmNEJi3ucY_PKP0-lHddrmi5x&index=2&t=0s

That’s not the problem. The issue is that it's not enforced. Many departments have body cams but they switch them off once they do something we're not supposed to see. Planting evidence is also common. For a comprehensive overview of the solutions to police brutality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIT_tcpzmQ&list=PLRE6vgY7NmNEJi3ucY_PKP0-lHddrmi5x&index=2&t=0s

We need to get conservative people to understand the problem. You know there's a great debunking of right-wing talking points about why blacks are overrepresented in police brutality and it also gives a comprehensive analysis of the solutions to police brutality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIT_tcpzmQ&list=PLRE6vgY7NmNEJi3ucY_PKP0-lHddrmi5x&index=2&t=0s

Have you seen the Filipino police? They just execute people without trial! Looking at the situation in the Philippines, shutting down opposition media, shooting lockdown violators, extrajudicial killings, authoritarianism seems to be on the rise. It's not only about deaths. It's about unnecessary rough handling, total lack of accountability, abuse of power, militarisation, arrest quotas etc

At keast somebody sees it! God there are so many right-wing deniers in this comments section!

One solution is to split the police force among different tasks, e.g. traffic cops, mental health, violent crime etc. This is explained more eleborately in this overview of the solutions to police brutality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIT_tcpzmQ&list=PLRE6vgY7NmNEJi3ucY_PKP0-lHddrmi5x&index=2&t=0s

Well said man. From what i hear the military actually has better deescalation protocols than the police. What do you think of this analysis of police brutality in America with a good overview of the solutions to police brutality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIT_tcpzmQ&list=PLRE6vgY7NmNEJi3ucY_PKP0-lHddrmi5x&index=2&t=0s I would say it's more well rounded.

Based on this analysis it's a combination of defund the unnecessary shit like military hardware and divide police functions among different things like don't let them to mental health: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIT_tcpzmQ&list=PLRE6vgY7NmNEJi3ucY_PKP0-lHddrmi5x&index=2&t=0s

Indeed the police buy military hardware on the cheap from the military.
