  1. I think the reality is that later life is inherently diminishing returns emotionally. The fact is one's senses diminish, brain become inured to new stimulus, and there is literally less mystery about life to make things compelling in that magical young person way way. I mean IQ peaks around 25 years, which is also around the physical prime, then it's all down hill lol. There's a reason everyone gets presbyopia around 40-50 years old. Evolution has deemed biologically there is little need to retain all that glorious accommodative dynamic range in the eyes to experience reality near and far beyond that point in life. Similarly evolution has likely selected emotions to loose their vibrancy and dynamism as one degrades physically into midlife, so that one conforms to a more boring risk mitigating existence to favour the next generation testing and pushing the boundaries....
