Yes blame the gamers. They ultimately support it enabling companies to continue on with their BS.

And it's often the latter. People who pirate never intended to buy it even if they had the money. The former is largely BS as those people have no problem finding the cash to buy the machine to play the games. Piracy does contribute to lost sales and revenues. Just ask Sega about their inability to support the Dreamcast.

That's because the games we grew up with got their cue from the arcades where developers intentionally made the games hard to fleece players out of their quarters. Developers over the years wised up and realized that in hope for their game to sell they would have to tone down the difficulty a bit.
