Comments by "" (@shauncameron8390) on "What it’s really like finding a place to rent in Toronto" video.
Mostly due to Ethiopian citizens who made their money abroad and came back home.

@Rooted_Locs Which became a necessity after the government mismanaged public housing into insolvency.
8
What do you mean had to? You voluntarily chose career and lifestyle over family and future.
7
Simple. No jobs. No services. No amenities.
6
That's not a viable option for those who don't drive.
5
For what? Newcomers are not going to a place where they're not welcome or wanted.
4
Are you expecting the same government that caused the crisis to solve it? <hope govt someday wakes up and does the right thing to protect its citizens.> You mean expedient.
3
Toronto is 2nd to only Vancouver.
3
Exactly.
3
@bmoshareholderappleshareho855 Nah. Canada and the US will be more like the old USSR.
2
<Accommodation in Montreal is affordable with some of the lowest cost of living expenses in the country.> But that's negated by lower salaries and higher taxes.
2
Where hardly anyone rents and there are no (white-collar) jobs.
2
Because it's illegal to discipline a kid.
2
Toronto >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> just about everywhere else in Canada.
2
@mr.centrist5789 Only the Blue States.
2
LOL. At the expense of privacy and personal peace. Not worth it. What you're suggesting is only great for freeloaders and troublemakers.
2
@redbandjack Namely to corporate investors who'll turn those properties into the very luxury condos the working class can't afford.
1
@VladiArdd The same can be said for being a tenant. Time to take your future seriously and buy your own property.
1
You're free to go find housing that was built before 2018 as they're still under rent control.
1
@eattherich9215 Well, rent control helped exacerbate the housing crisis by fewer rentals available for those seeking housing along with landlords selling their properties because they weren't legally allowed to charge the amount needed to cover basic operating costs losing money in the process. Never mind the lopsided rental laws in favor of tenants making renovictions, AirBnB and even leaving apartments empty viable options.
1
@rtimmins7212 <I can make lunch for 2 people for a lot less than 15 dollars> Yet have to spend more than $15 just to get the ingredients needed for that.
1
Pretty much.
1
<theres so much advantage like socializing or more free time because we are all invole in the kerp the manson cleaned> But no privacy or personal space, conflicting interests, enabling people who just want to live carefree at the expense of others, etc. No thanks.
1
But wages are lower in Manitoba.
1
@patc3650 Exactly.
1
He much rather be homeless in Canada than live under Erdogan.
1
@Nitishr1992 Yet vote for the same politicians and policies that caused them to flee New York and California. New York and California have the excuses of being desirable places to live, home to Big Tech, the film industry, banking, entertainment industry, etc.
1
Government made affordable housing costly and unviable.
1
@TheMaiah13 So is living in cramped and overcrowded spaces.
1
Yet the majority only want to live in the cities.
1
@johnnygoodman2003 Rent is the least of their problems.
1
@bobinabuddy But Canada had far less immigration then.
1
@mirabella2154 Because a dog/cat won't stand up to you or call you out on your BS like humans.
1
No. Better solution: why don't you consider living somewhere other than the big city?
1
@EnnuinerDog The actual cause of this housing unaffordability is government meddling in which mass immigration-induced high demand is part of.
1
Actually if it wasn't for the rich, there'd be no middle class. Plus, until recently, the middle class didn't exist.
1
@bmoshareholderappleshareho855 That's just Downtown and some other trendy part of the city. There are a lot of places that cost less than that.
1
Air BnB is not the problem. Government meddling made Air BnB a thing.
1
LOL.
1
@two-sense Not the Canadians in the Lower Mainland where Vancouver is situated.
1
Because thanks to government taxes and restrictions, those are the only high-density housing developers are legally allowed to build with a decent ROI.
1
@zacatkinson3926 What is there to get? That's what most people's grandparents did during the Great Depression when they could no longer afford to live in the big city. Pay up or move out.
1
Allow landlords to evict bad tenants in a timely manner.
1
@two-sense Simple. Everyone's drive to be something directs them to the big city where the infrastructure and support are located.
1
Whereas in socialism, they wouldn't have been able to get an apartment even if they could afford the higher rent due to lack of availability.
1
@jasmines.6325 But it's still not a right.
1
@zacatkinson3926 Namely the cities and a few towns city folks are moving into en masse.
1
@Tjd1982 But NB is a dump. No offense.
1
@maxxomega6599 Due to their own lack of foresight and general ignorance/stupidity.
1
Because they hardly bothered to save or invest into their own retirements during their working years and are soon about to pay the price.
1
@respawnlock666 Compassion and empathy have their limits.
1
@minoozolala <Divorce, medical problems and expenses, taking time off to look after elderly parents, alimony payments, disability, having been out of country for wor> Not really. <Maybe withhold your judgment and simply have a bit of compassion.> No. Compassion = enablement.
