I really loved this discussion. But I must admit that I had to work to continue to listen at some points because his "secular take" on religious customs I found to be so obtuse that it bordered on offensive. Ok... so I wrote the first paragraph a little too early into the conversation. Now that i have finished the episode, I believe that Malcom is the end product of a culture that has gotten rid of a very significant portion of what it means to be fully human.

@johnheers6220 it was certainly helpful for me to hear it. I have spent more time thinking about it than I care to admit. My wife and I converted to Orthodox Christianity about 4 years ago out of a very purposeful rejection of the modern project. I believe that we all have some kind of savior complex and we desire to save and to re-enchant the world. But I'm afraid that I have to give that up because I believe that the new religion is inevitable and it seems to already be here. In one sense, it's my duty to fight it. In another sense, I have to accept that we are going to lose. At least in the short run.

@deaththekid3998 man i really think that we are going to be speaking different languages here. Your reply was so void of any spiritual relevance that it will be hard to understand where I'm coming from. You have no relationship to the religions that existed and went extinct. You have never participated in their rituals or experienced their gods, or know why those rituals and gods went away. Now you are trying to determine your own spiritual path by aggregating and analyzing beliefs that you could not understand through any lense that would make sense to you at all. You live in a Christian world, after all of those gods have been long conquered. Your curiosity is never going to lead you to something spiritual.
