  1. Why should the UK compromise? What Merkel is asking for is the annexation of NI to the EU, while still expecting the UK to pay for its upkeep. Why should the UK pay the EU to move goods within its border. The EU want to collect tariffs from the UK when the UK moves goods from the UK to NI. The EU is not prepared to pay the UK tariffs when EU goods are moved into NI, that would be the equitable arrangement. If Northern Ireland wants to be considered one country, let it have a vote on reunification and leaving the UK. The condition is that the EU and the RoI take full financial and political responsible for NI from day one of reunification.
