The EU insisted that the joint declaration was not binding, presumably because they thought they could get better terms. The EU can't complain if that did not work in its favour.

@karstenschuhmann8334 the EU might worry about how much of the withdrawal agreement will be implemented. It is increasingly likely that eu boats will not gain access to uk coastal waters, and the level playing field intended to stop the uk competing with the eu is also very unlikely. The uk may also implement hidden tariffs to make imports from the eu far less attractive. Then there is the matter of eu assets in the uk, that which damages UK interests will most certainly damage eu assets.

@karstenschuhmann8334 I think you will find that the implementation of this binding treaty will be rather poorly applied. You certainly cannot trust the UK as there will not be a level playing field. You are welcome to the banks, I hope they do to the EU economy what they did to the UK.
