@jusb1066 the commons vote for article 50 and leaving the EU in march next year. That is why this is the default position. The government never had a mandate to take the UK into the EU, they only had a mandate to join the common market. As to the illigel war, that was based on intelligence reports that were spun to magnify the threat from none existent to immanent nuclear attack on the UK.

@jusb1066 the result of a general election cannot be assumed to be a mandate for any particular policy. It is even a stretch to claim that it is a mandate for a parties manesto. In a general election, there are too many issues involved to understand the will of the people. Only a referendum, which asks a question on a single issue, can it be said that the will of the people is clear. In the case of the brexit referendum the turn out was very high, this is because every vote counts, unlike an election where most of the votes have little effect on the result. That is why the brexit referendum result is so important. The UK population was never asked if it wants to become part of the EU, with its super state ambitions and it's four freedoms. The UK people were asked if they wanted to leave the EU, and despite all the dire warnings about the consequences of leaving, they voted to leave.
