  1. The EU does not really have any choice. The UK seized an Iranian oil tanker for allergy breaching EU sanctions on Syria. The Iranians retaliated by seizing a UK flagged oil tanker, but unfortunately for Iran, the tanker was Scandinavian owned and crewed by a crew of three nationalities, none of them British. This all looked like a UK constructed trap which the Iranians fell into. The EU must be seen to protect those implementing its sanctions and protecting EU based companies. It is very likely that the EU will put a protection fleet together, this will be forced to coordinate its activities with the British and the US. While the EU will deny they are working with the US, in practice it will not make any difference. If the Iranians attack a European ship, no matter what flag it operates under and the US navy comes to its aid, the trap will be fully sprung.
