  1. Good grief, an EU policy with which I can agree. But there is little chance that these recommendations will lead to laws against designed in obsolescence. Expensive electronic products of only a few years old are often consigned to the scrap pile. Because of the failure of a component costing only a few pence. Fully working equipment is often made prematurely obsolete by the withdrawal of software support. A problem easily solved by forcing manufactures to maintain a public archive of older versions of their software. Manufactures of portable electronics, design in fix term obsolescence by sealing the rechargable batteries into the product, thus limiting it's working life to the relative short life of the battery. Even products with user replaceable batteries, limit the product life by using non standard battery packaging. This problem could be solved by forcing the use of standard size batteries.
