  2. Putin is terrified his war will have nothing to show by the beginning of May. As it is, his war has been a disaster for Russia, failing to meet any of his stated goals. In most cases it has been counter productive. Putin can no longer function as Russian leader, he must keep Russia in isolation to stop the Russian people learning the truth about his war. By the end of the year, western sanctions will have destroyed the Russian economy. Putin has outlived his usefulness for the Russian elite. Sooner or later there will be a move to replace him.
