BcA - Biciclind cu Axel Electric car technology is not yet equivalent to diesel. They cannot provide the energy density and lack the convenience of rapid refill. Electric cars also have pollution problems. They require rare earth elements and lithium to work. The electricity they use must be generated somewhere, at the moment that leads to CO2 generation. The batteries used have a very limited life and represent a substantial part of the cost of the vehicle. The range of an all electric car is a fraction of that of a diesel. None of the above should be taken as that diesel does not need to be replaced, it is just that the replacement technology does not yet exist.

BcA - Biciclind cu Axel electrical power engineer, no vested interest then? It is not a question of can the required electrical energy be generated without pollution, but is it being generated that way. The answer must be not at the moment and certainly not in sufficient quantity.

BcA - Biciclind cu Axel do you have the infrastructure to charge all the diesel replacements? Can you recharge an electric car in the same amount of time it takes to fill up a diesel? The answer is likely to be not yet. To match the performance of even petrol, the battery energy density must be 12 kWh per kg. Batteries cannot do that yet. Where is all the rare earth elements going to come from to make the electric motors required. The development of all electric cars and the batteries they require is happening at a remarkable pace, but the technology has some critical problems and is not yet a true replacement for either diesel or petrol. The current solutions may yet prove to be a dead end. There are other technologies that are showing promise, such as fuel cells, which require less investment in electrical infrastructure and solve the problem of rapid refueling. It will be very expensive to force a solution before it is ready.
