Anthony Burke if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, has the DNA of a duck, its a duck.

Anthony Burke I understand the EU is going to appeal the decision. And yes its a duck, would you like to remind me how much tax apple pays. I will accept fractions of a percent or a decimal, but you might like to use scientific notation to avoid excessive wear on the zero key. Interesting that you accuse the UK of being the US puddle, yet it is Ireland that gives a US company two tax breaks. After brexit, the ECJ has no jurisdiction in the UK and any decisions it make will just be ignored by the UK, a bit like France and Germany do now.

Anthony Burke strange then that some many are calling it a tax haven. Certainly that appears to be the opinion of the eu commissioner.

Anthony Burke ECJ rule in NI does not seem to be going well at the moment and there is no chance it will be continued for the rest of the uk. A trade deal seems very unlikely at the moment. As to apples tax bill, the report said it was 0.0005%. If a country is going to award subsidies, it usually gives them to its own companies, but the RoI gave them to an american company, guess it could not find one of its own.

Anthony Burke I think you mean whole, but when discussing apple and the RoI, I think your spelling may be more appropriate. I doubt if the commissioner will give up and will appeal. The current judgement is from the general court not the ECJ. I do not think the ECJ will want to allow the RoI set this precedence. Illegal company subsidies are a matter for the EU, soon it will be federal taxation, as someone is going to pay for those 750 billion euro give aways.

Anthony Burke better than in the RoI, after all apple have taken 13 billion euro from Irish tax payers. Seems like the days of the Irish tax haven may soon be over as the EU is planning a major overhaul of the eu tax system, and Ireland will no longer be able to veto any changes. Once this happens, Apple may not find the RoI as such an attractive place for its HQ.

Anthony Burke so the eu is lying about the tax that Apple have avoided. I should remained you the case has yet to be ruled upon by the ECJ, so RoI may have won the battle but not necessarily the war. Though it is questionable that denying the people of Ireland 13 billion euros is a win, it is certainly a win for Apple.

@Tortuga González García you need not worry about the veto's in the EU. The federalists are determined that the veto option will go, along with the last remnants of democracy and the concept of sovereign member states. The UK did not leave the eu, just so it can join another. It can be argued that the UK did not leave the eu, it was the EU that left the UK. Certainly the common market (EEC) that the UK public voted to join is not the same as the EU that exists now. What was sold to the uk public was a common market made up of cooperating independent sovereign states, working together where their interests coincide. Form a new common market along those principles we might be interested.
