Hamas has managed to convert the Palestinians from victims to aggressors and the oppressive Israel, land stealing, right wing Israeli government to the good guys. Western media support is now behind Israel. This is going to be a short lived pyrrhic victory for the Palestinians. It's like hitting a hornets nest with a stick, a few hornets are killed, but the power of the swarm is unleashed. I doubt if the regional conflict Hamas wants to trigger will be the result.
