  1. No doubt Putin was calculating on the toxin being metabolised before it could be found by the Germans. What remains will be the resulting nerve damage. You would think that Putin's assassins would have found a more untraceable poison. Then again one might surmise that it is in Putin's interests to be suspected of poisoning his enemies, provided it can never be conclusively proved. That is why the poison used is always a WMD, only available to a state. The purpose is to act as a warning to others who might oppose him.
