The object of the exercise is to reduce the number of years pensions must be paid. Ideally, workers should die at work. The problem with increasing pension age, is its impact on unemployment. The old will be holding on to jobs longer, keeping the young out of work. Contrary to popular belief, work opportunities do not expand to accommodate the size of the work force. In the short term robotics and AI will reduce employment opportunities. The weakness in automation is that robots do not earn a wage, do not consume, and do not pay tax. So the economy is heading for a finance crunch.

@geospatial-KML it may also be why us citizens cannot afford lunch. It really is a question about the size of the pension pot. The is nothing to stop pensioners from continuing to work after retirement age, except tax. Do you really think there is much demand for workers over pension age?
